Taxonomy
Sardinioides was named by von der Marck (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: ]. Its type is Osmeroides monasterii. It is the type genus of Sardinioididae.
It was synonymized subjectively with Osmeroides by Hay (1903).
It was assigned to Actinopterygii by Woodward (1901); to Scopelidae by Woodward (1902); to Myctophiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Neoscopelidae by Prokofiev (2006); and to Sardinioididae by Goody (1969) and Dietze (2009).
