Phugatherium cataclisticum

Taxonomy

Phugatherium cataclisticum was named by Ameghino (1887). Its type specimen is MLP 60-IV-7-1, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil.

Synonyms

Chapalmatherium irenense was named by Reig (1958). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chapalmatherium novum by Prado et al. (1998); it was synonymized subjectively with Phugatherium cataclisticum by Vucetich et al. (2014).
Protohydrochoerus rothi was named by Rovereto (1914).

It was synonymized subjectively with Chapalmatherium perturbidum by Prado et al. (1998); it was synonymized subjectively with Phugatherium cataclisticum by Vucetich et al. (2014).
Hydrochoerus lydekkeri was named by Moreno (1888).

It was synonymized subjectively with Phugatherium cataclisticum by Vucetich et al. (2014).
Anchimysops villalobosi was named by Kraglievich (1927).

It was synonymized objectively with Phugatherium cataclisticum by Vucetich et al. (2014).
Neoanchimys pisanoi was named by Pascual and Bondesio (1961). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Monte Hermoso, which is in a Montehermosan terrestrial siltstone in the Monte Hermoso Formation of Argentina.

It was synonymized subjectively with Phugatherium cataclisticum by Mones (1972).
