Siphonaliinae was named by Finlay (1928). It is extant.

It was reranked as the family Siphonaliidae by Nagao (1928) and Titova (1994).

It was assigned to Gastropoda by Nagao (1928); to Buccinulidae by Powell (1929); to Buccinoidea by Titova (1994); and to Buccinidae by Bouchet et al. (2005) and Bouchet et al. (2017).
