Taxonomy
Albertosaurus was named by Osborn (1905). It is the type genus of Albertosaurinae. It was considered monophyletic by Currie (2000).
It was synonymized subjectively with Aublysodon by Romer (1956) and Parsch (1963); it was synonymized subjectively with Deinodon by Tatarinov (1964).

Osborn 1905 | Reduced alveolar partitions between the mandibular teeth; . . . principal alveolar grooves apparently formed on the inner surface of the outer dentary wall with little or no development of grooves on the alveolar plate (Lambe, op. cit., p. i6)." The mandibular ramus is devoid of the triangular osseous plates between the teeth. The anterior truncate teeth are reduced to a single small pair. |
