Aphrocallistes was named by Gray (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Hexactinosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aphrocallistidae by Finks et al. (2004).
