Fusus (Hemifusus) cooperii was named by Gabb (1864). Its type specimen is UCMP 11691 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Ficopsis cooperii by Gabb (1864), Gabb (1869), Dickerson (1915) and Dickerson (1916); it was replaced with Ficopsis cooperiana by Stewart (1927) and Squires (1984).
