Cypraea castacensis was named by Stewart (1927). Its type specimen is UCMP 11690 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Eocypraea (Eocypraea) castacensis by Perrilliat et al. (2003); it was recombined as Grovesia castacensis by Groves and Squires (2023).
