Taxonomy
Cidaris branneri was named by Arnold (1908). Its type specimen is Leland Stanford Junior University 1056 (External mold of almost perfect spine) and is a mold. Its type locality is Lastro, perto de Maroim, which is in an Albian carbonate limestone in the Riacheulo Formation of Brazil.
