Taxonomy
Bavarisauridae was named by Kuhn (1961). It is not extant. Its type is Bavarisaurus.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Iguanidae by Cocude-Michel (1963).

It was assigned to Gekkonoidea by Kuhn (1966); to Gekkota by Estes (1983); and to Nyctisaura by Carroll (1988).
