Sinaspideretes was named by Young and Chow (1953).
It was assigned to Sinaspideretidae by Ckhikvadze (1987); to Trionychidae by Young and Chow (1953), Yeh (1963), Carroll (1988) and Meylan and Gaffney (1992); to Carettochelyidae by Sukhanov (2000) and Brinkman et al. (2008); and to Trionychoidea by Tong et al. (2014).
