Selenetherium kolleensis

Taxonomy
Selenetherium kolleensis was named by Mackaye et al. (2005). Its type specimen is KL4.96.002, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kolle, which is in a Zanclean fluvial-lacustrine sandstone in Chad. It is the type species of Selenetherium.

Mackaye et al. 2005mandibule dépourvue de défenses, courte, très haute et massive avec des branches horizontales renflées et étalées latéralement ; bec symphysaire bien individualisé et court, très peu incliné vers le bas. M/3 à six lames et deux cingulums (mésial et distal) ; les lames de toutes les molaires sont larges, à émail épais et non plissé, aux bords latéraux (en vue occlusale) pincés. Les deux faces (mésiale et distale) ne sont pas parallèles : bords mésiaux dilatés au niveau de leurs régions médianes et très convexes, bords distaux faiblement convexes, presque rectilignes (d’où une allure caractéristique en croissant de lune). Vallées interlames en forme de « V ».
