Taxonomy
Molgophis was named by Cope (1868). It is the type genus of Molgophidae.
It was synonymized subjectively with Brachydectes by Pardo and Anderson (2016).
It was assigned to Microsauria by Cope (1869); to Molgophidae by Cope (1875) and Hay (1902); to Lysorophidae by Carroll (1988); and to Lysorophia by Carroll et al. (1998).
