Taxonomy
Seymouria was named by Broili (1904). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Laurin (1995).

It was synonymized subjectively with Conodectes by Sushkin (1926) and Hay (1930).

It was assigned to Pareiasauridae by Broili (1904); to Seymouriamorpha by Olson (1979); to Seymouriidae by Vaughn (1966), Carroll et al. (1972), Carroll (1988), Laurin (1995) and Bulanov (2003); and to Seymouridae by Case (1911) and Martens et al. (2005).
