Leptaena (Leptaena) depressa

Taxonomy
Producta depressa was named by Sowerby (1824) ["Neotype" designated by Kelly (1967), redesignated as lectotype by Bassett & Cocks (1974). (It is from Sowerby's collection, after all.) = Strophomena rhomboidalis (Wilckens); Davidson 1871, pl. 39, figs. 3, 5, 12, 14 only.]. Its type specimen is NHM B60649 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dudley, West Midlands, which is in a Homerian marine horizon in the Much Wenlock Limestone Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Leptaena depressa by Kelly (1967), Cocks (1968), Bassett and Cocks (1974) and Hoel (2005); it was recombined as Leptaena (Leptaena) depressa by Rubel (2011).

F. B. Kelly 1967Semi-circular to quadrate or rhomboid, having radial costellae with small interspaces and rugae not coarsely developed. Foramen small, often cicatrized; pseudodeltidium small covering only umbonal part of delthyrium. Ventral valve depressed immediately inside line of geniculation. Ventral muscle scar large, widely cordate. Adductors anteriorly elevated, shorter than diductors.
O. A. Hoel 2005Species of Leptaena with large number of regular rugae and small alae. Chilidium massive, pseudodeltidium very small. Inner surface usually strongly tuberculate. Cardinal process lobes relatively very small and parallel. Teeth strong, sockets shallow. See also KELLY (1967: 595).
