Taxonomy
Aletornis venustus was named by Marsh (1872). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Henry's Fork, which is in an Eocene terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.
It was recombined as Fulicaletornis venustus by Lambrecht (1933), Wetmore (1940), Brodkorb (1952), Wetmore (1956), Brodkorb (1967) and Olson (1977).
