Taxonomy
Sarcorhamphus clarki was named by Miller (1910).

It was recombined as Vultur clarki by Hay (1930) and Lambrecht (1933); it was recombined as Breagyps clarki by Wetmore (1940), Miller and DeMay (1942), Wetmore (1956) and Howard (1969).
