Taxonomy
Meretrix hornii was named by Gabb (1864).

It was recombined as Macrocallista (Costacallista) hornii by Stewart (1930); it was recombined as Pitar (Lamelliconcha) hornii by Vokes (1939); it was recombined as Callista (Costacallista) hornii by Squires (1984), Squires (1987) and Squires (1988).
