Taxonomy
Anser hutchinsii was named by Richardson (1832). It is extant.

It was recombined as Branta canadensis hutchinsi by Wetmore (1931) and Wetmore (1940); it was recombined as Branta canadensis hutchinsii by Wetmore (1956); it was recombined as Branta hutchinsii by Broughton (2004) and Clements et al. (2017).
