Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
M. D. Uhen et al. 2008The shape of the jawbone is slender, and the lower edge is lightly corrugated. The two branches deviate strongly behind compared to the living Physeter, while ahead they are united over a considerable length forming a symphysis, which occupies about one third the length of the jaw. The living sperm whale has a much longer mandibular symphysis (Van Beneden, 1877).
