Taxonomy
Neosqualodon was named by Dal Piaz (1904) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l]. Its type is Neosqualodon assenzae. It was considered monophyletic by Muizon (1987) and Bianucci et al. (2011).
It was considered a nomen dubium by Fordyce and de Muizon (2001); it was considered a nomen dubium by Uhen and Pyenson (2007).
