It was assigned to Eocheloniinae by Weems (1988); to Chelonioidea by Lapparent de Broin and Werner (1998); to Chelonia by Sepkoski (2002); to Pancheloniidae by Weems (2014); and to Cheloniidae by Tong and Hirayama (2002) and Zvonok et al. (2023).
