Hyperoglyphe was named by Guenther (1859) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 503]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Nomeidae by Steurbaut (1979); to Centrolophidae by Steurbaut (1984); and to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002).
