Gadomus was named by Regan (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Gadiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Macrouridae by Nolf and Steurbaut (1983) and Lin et al. (2017); and to Bathygadidae by Schwarzhans (2019).
