Coryphaenoides was named by Gunnerus (1765) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 560,915]. It is extant. Its type is Coryphaenoides rupestris.
It was assigned to Gadiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Macrouridae by Nolf and Steurbaut (1983), Schwarzhans (2003) and Girone et al. (2006); and to Macrourinae by Lin et al. (2017).
