Parvilux was named by Hubbs and Wisner (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R Sepkoski's reference number: 560]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Myctophiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lampanyctinae by Martin et al. (2018).
