Taxonomy

Ichthyotringa was named by Cope (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l K Camp Sepkoski's reference number: 2,863,915]. Its type is Ichthyotringa tenuirostris. It is the type genus of Ichthyotringidae.

It was assigned to Dercetidae by Hay (1902); to Alepisauriformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ichthyotringidae by Goody (1969), Dietze (2009), Amalfitano et al. (2020) and Argyriou et al. (2022).

Synonyms

Rhinellus was named by Agassiz (1835).

It was replaced with Ichthyotringa by Goody (1969).

It was assigned to Sclerodermi by Agassiz (1835); and to Actinopterygii by Woodward (1901).
