It was assigned to Pisces by Cocco (1838); to Gonostomatinae by Arambourg (1925) and Arambourg (1927); to Stomiiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gonostomatidae by Schwarzhans (1980), Gaudant et al. (1996), Girone et al. (2006), Gradianu et al. (2017) and Schwarzhans (2019).
