Taxonomy
Bananogmius was named by Whitley (1940) [Sepkoski's age data: ]. It is not extant. Its type is Anogmius aratus.

It was assigned to Bananogmiidae by Applegate (1970) and Thurmond and Jones (1981); to Crossognathiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Plethodidae by Taverne (2000), Taverne (2001), Shimada (2006) and Shimada et al. (2006).
