Ophidiidarum was named by Koken (1885) [This is a form taxon for otoliths in the family Ophidiidae.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Otolithus (Ophidiidarum) occultus.

It was reranked as Otolithus (Ophidiidarum) by Casier (1966).

It was assigned to Otolithus by Casier (1966); and to Ophidiidae by Koken (1891), Heinrich (1969) and Schwarzhans (2007).
