It was assigned to Congrinae by Steurbaut (1984); to Anguilliformes by Thurmond and Jones (1981) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Congridae by Casier (1966), Steurbaut (1982), Gaemers (1984), Purdy et al. (2001), Schwarzhans (2003), Girone et al. (2006) and Schwarzhans (2019).
