Eophryne barbutii

Taxonomy
Eophryne barbutii was named by Carnevale and Pietsch (2009). Its type specimen is MCSNV B.6513, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Monte Bolca, Pesciara (FMNH collection), which is in a Ypresian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in Italy. It is the type species of Eophryne.

Pietsch 2009Eophryne gen. nov. is unique among antennari- ids in having the following combination of characters: skin between and on the surface of second and third dor- sal-fin spines covered with tiny bifurcated dermal spinules (spinules are difficult to detect elsewhere); illicium naked, without dermal spinules; outermost rays of caudal-fin simple, seven innermost rays bifurcated; caudal peduncle present; epural present; dorsal fin contains 11 rays; anal fin contains seven rays.
