Taxonomy
Tarrasius was named by Traquair (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Tarrasiidae. It was considered monophyletic by Lund and Poplin (2002) and Sallan (2012).

It was assigned to Crossopterygii by Woodward (1891); to Tarrasiidae by Lund and Poplin (2002); and to Tarrasiiformes by Sepkoski (2002) and Sallan (2012).
