Westollia was named by White and Moy-Thomas (1940) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Lepidopterus crassus.

It was assigned to Palaeonisciformes by Sepkoski (2002).
