Amylodon was named by Storms (1894) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Chimaeridae by Averianov and Popov (1995); to Chimaeriformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhinchochimaeridae by Ebersole et al. (2022).
