Taxonomy
Belemnobatis was named by Thiollière (1854) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm-u Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Asterodermidae by Jordan (1963); to Rhinobatoidei by Underwood and Rees (2002); to Galeomorphii by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhinobatidae by Woodward (1889), Cappetta (1987), Delsate and Candoni (2001), Underwood (2004), Underwood and Ward (2004), Kriwet et al. (2009) and Guinot et al. (2014).
