Taxonomy
Triakis was named by Müller and Henle (1838) [Sepkoski's age data: T Pale R Sepkoski's reference number: 863,884]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Triakinae.

It was assigned to Galeorhinidae by Jordan and Gilbert (1919); to Galeidae by Jordan (1963); to Triakinae by Noubhani and Cappetta (1997); to Carcharhiniformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Triakidae by Casier (1958) and Cahuzac et al. (2007).
