Orectoloboides was named by Cappetta (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call K Albi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 452,884]. Its type is Ginglymostoma parvula.
It was assigned to Orectolobiformes by Thies (1983) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Orectolobidae by Cappetta (1977), Werner (1989), Biddle (1993) and Cahuzac et al. (2007).
