Taxonomy
Urolepis macroptera was named by Bellotti (1857). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Perledo (MCSM collection), which is in a Longobardian marine limestone in the Perledo-Varenna Formation of Italy.
It was recombined as Aneurolepis macroptera by López-Arbarello et al. (2014).
