Gemuendina was named by Traquair (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 521]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Galeidae by Jordan (1963); to Asterosteidae by Denison (1978); and to Rhenanida by Sepkoski (2002).
