Taxonomy
Ammonites soutoni was named by Baily (1855). Its type specimen is BMNH C47261, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Submortoniceras soutoni by Reyment (1955); it was recombined as Texanites (Texanites) soutoni by Kennedy (1995).
