Taxonomy
Salenia was named by Gray (1835) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 577]. It is extant. Its type is Cidarites scutigera.
It was assigned to Saleninae by Zullo et al. (1964); to Saleniinae by Nisiyama (1966), Fell and Pawson (1966), Geys (1979) and Geys (1982); to Salenioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Saleniidae by Clark and Twitchell (1915), Cooke (1941), Geys and Jagt (1986), Linder et al. (1988), Smith (1995) and Osborn et al. (2016).
It was assigned to Saleninae by Zullo et al.
