Bombacacidites simplireticulatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number 28861.
Paratypes: UFP 87, 10.7 x 103.5.
]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 37, 12 x 95.5, a microspore (Pollen grain).
