Palacrodon browni

Taxonomy

Palacrodon browni was named by Broom (1906). Its type specimen is SAM-PK-5871, a mandible (incomplete left lower jaw), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Aliwal North Area, which is in an Anisian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Burgersdorp Formation of South Africa. It is the type species of Palacrodon.

Synonyms

Fremouwsaurus geludens was named by Gow (1992). Its type specimen is BP/1/5296, a partial skull, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Kitching Ridge (Fremouw Fm.), which is in a Triassic fluvial sandstone/mudstone in the Fremouw Formation of Antarctica. It is the type species of Fremouwsaurus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Palacrodon browni by Gow (1999).

C. E. Gow 1999	Small diapsid reptile with breached lower temporal bars and acrodont dentition. Teeth small and peg-like anteriorly, becoming broad posteriorly with crowns biconcave in profile. Posterior cheek teeth of mature individuals having broad mesial and distal contacts with their neighbours.
