Taxonomy
Cidaris diatretum was named by Morton (1833). Its type specimen is ANSP 1471, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pseudodiadema diatretum by Desor (1858), Clark and Twitchell (1915) and Cooke (1941); it was recombined as Echinopsis diatreta by Cooke (1959).
