Tribodus was named by Brito and Ferreira (1989). It is not extant. Its type is Tribodus limae.

It was assigned to Hybodontidae by Brito and Ferreira (1989) and Cuny et al. (2004); and to Distobatidae by Cahuzac et al. (2007).
