Squatina frequens was named by Underwood (2002). Its type specimen is P65698, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ringstead Bay, Weymouth, which is in a Kimmeridgian/Tithonian marine horizon in the Kimmeridge Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
