Taxonomy
Apateodus lanceolatus was named by Woodward (1901). Its type specimen is BMNH 39080, a maxilla, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dover (Holaster subglobosus zone, Bowerbank collection), which is in a Cenomanian/Cenomanian carbonate chalk in the United Kingdom.
