Taxonomy
Koonwarria manifrons was named by Waldman (1971). Its type specimen is MUZ 2797 A,B, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Koonwarra fish-bed, which is in a Cretaceous fluvial mudstone/claystone in Australia. It is the type species of Koonwarria.
