Taxonomy
Toxochelys stenoporus was named by Hay (1905). Its type specimen is YPM-1786 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Toxochelys stenopora by Hay (1930); it was recombined as Ctenochelys stenoporus by Zangerl (1953), Matzke (2007), Karl and Nyhuis (2012) and Gentry (2017).
