Taxonomy
Scyllium dubium was named by Woodward (1889). Its type specimen is BMNH 47288, a set of teeth, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Scyliorhinus dubius by Cappetta (1977), Müller and Diedrich (1991), Underwood and Mitchell (1999) and Guinot et al. (2013).
